Utter Confusion and my Impending Return

If anyone is still out there, I wanted to say that I'm on my way back. I'm battling my post-postgraduate ennui (the end of education? What the hell do I do? do I go for a PhD just because I don't know how to function if I'm not in school? Or do I bask in my delicious laziness--days of sleeping in, reading plays, watching project runway, and painting my nails?)...

Soon. I promise. Something thoughtful, relevant even. My brain is retraining itself.

Just one little mini-rant before I go:

Why is it that my MA now makes me overqualified for what I don't want to do and underqualified for what I do want to do? I can't even get a mediocre job to pay the rent. I swear to god those letters on my resume scare people. Help!

Oh the famous catch 22 of theatre education. That MA is an odd degree, to be sure. Because it's not terminal, and very focused at the same time. What does one do with an MA in theatre? I battled with that all last year. I'm sure, though, that when those opportunities do roll your way, you'll be more than prepared. You're fighting the good fight.

Welcome back

Considering 90% of what happens to a person in his / her life also happens to everyone else, that means the average person's life is filled with "cliches." Or, if you prefer, "universal experiences."

Which, of course, means StealTheElephant is either a) the smartest and most supportive person to ever troll a blog, or b) a blog-trolling cliche.

Ouch. That hurts. ( <--- cliche )

hi annie

i don't think we have met before. At the moment I'm thinking of taking an MA at central school (Advanced theatre practise) and by googling this i found your contact.
If you happen to have some minutes it would be great if you could send me a few words by email.
As a performer, passionate with devising and new approaches, i'm looking for an MA that will give the chance to work 'freely' with different people while creating intensive and quality work. I would like to extend my knowledge in directing and producing, and explore other alternatives of performance. Do you think Central provided you that? Support and Enthusiasm to create? ... Generally i think those are my main questions, but if you wanna add any extra stuff that you think it can be helpful for me to 'listen' I'd be very grateful.
Thanks so much.

Miguel
